![]() The downside from stacking all that stuff, is f/16 and ISO 6400. This is the 100-400, on the a7RIII, 25mm ET, with 1.4x, plus around a 40% crop: Have you tried the FE 1.4x teleconverter? Mine is excellent on my a9 and a7RIII with the 100-400mm. With the a7RIII, a 80% crop is where the 2x might start being better. In my tests, the IQ is pretty close with 2x vs. Using a 2x converter you should get 1:1.5 and thats not bad at all. With its approx 1:3 magnification it is far from a macro lens, but r3 and r4 gives plenty of cropping power and this lens got plenty sharpness for this kind of use. Hey thats an exellent alternative for outdoor shooting live insects. I have the 2x teleconverter and to be honest I am not that pleased with it.l using the 100-400 on the A7R4 I kinda feel it’s easier to pixel crop than push with the converter but time will tell.,might be different in macro. Add a 25mm extension tube and a teleconverter and you've got a really flexible, fast macro. (Mine is actually 23", but the specs say that it's further). The 100-400mm is an excellent macro lens, thanks to a short minimum focus distance. am wondering if it’s worth me getting a dedicated macro lens or not. 2 are jpeg and doctored, 2 are raw and doctored and jpeg’d.
